Description

Lot 83 chestnut colt Written Tycoon – Irish Rose (Fastnet Rock) $200,000 (draft: Corumbene Stud)

Written Tycoon (Iglesia) remains one of the most sought after stallions in Australia, and rightly so as he continues to produce high quality young thoroughbreds. He topped the Australian General Sires’ List in 2021, from an initial service fee of $8,250 to now command a private fee. Leading First Season Sire and Champion Two-Year-Old Sire Written Tycoon is currently third leading sire for both wins and winners in Australia, with over 135 stakes wins including 15 individual Group One winners.

Written Tycoon is having another stellar season with his two-year-olds, including Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Lady Of Camelot, and Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) and Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Velocious, while Te Akau juvenile Captured By Love has registered two Group Two wins, a Group Three, and twice Group One placed. The Written Tycoon/Fastnet Rock cross has been the most successful for the sire, with five individual stakes winners, including Lady Of Camelot, who won the Widden Stakes (Gr. 3, 1100m) in addition to the Golden Slipper and finished runner-up in the Blue Diamond  Stakes(Gr. 1, 1200m) from only four starts.

Written Tycoon is also a sire of sires, including Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Capitalist, Group One winners Written By and Ole Kirk, and Rich Enuff, Winning Rupert. Dam Irish Rose won over 1200 metres and already produced five time winner Rusheen, while grand-dam Bramble Rose (Shinko King) was a renowned New Zealand Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) winner, New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year and Champion Stayer, who had a terrific turn of foot. She also made her mark as a broodmare with six individual winners of 18 races, including Group Two winner Tangled (Snitzel) and listed winner Maules Creek (Redoute’s Choice).

“He’s a shorter coupled, strong, colt with a lot of presence and really fills the eye,” said David Ellis. “He really is the complete package already and we were thrilled to get a colt with his pedigree at such a good value price.” The colt carries bloodline crosses of immortal stallion Northern Dancer.
