Reece Trumper

Racing Manager

Reece, who has an extensive thoroughbred racing and breeding knowledge has quickly risen through the ranks in three years working for Te Akau Racing.

You don’t have to look far in the Te Akau team to find Reece Trumper and his passion for racing. Reece grew up in Stratford and worked for both trainers Chris Bothwell and Gavin Sharrock who gave him a lot of confidence working with horses before moving to join Te Akau Racing.

Before becoming our Racing Manager in August 2022 Reece worked as our Assistant Stable Foreman at the Te Akau Colt barn and is a genuine young man. He is very enthusiastic and nothing is ever a problem with him. He is always one of the first to work, passionate and professional in all his work.

His introduction into racing was through his grandparents, John & Sue Trumper, who have Cheveley Stud (Te Aroha). They stood stallions and got Group One winners: Gee I Jane, Pakaraka Star and Bulginbaah. Reece’s aunty Lou (McGregor) trained Grande Bellezza (Oratorio) to win a Dunstan Stayers’ Final. Reece’s family have moved to Cambridge to be closer to his family and his brother Nathan Trumper is the Assistant Trainer at Wexford Stables.

He is an encouraging member of our staff, he’s well liked and nothing is ever a problem for him – he’s is too happy to help in any given situation and he always wants to do any task properly and in the most professional manner.

Reece received the The Team Member of the Quarter in the 2021/22 season and we are looking forward to him flourishing in team Te Akau.
