Karaka Yearling Sales 2025
Lot 643 bay filly Super Seth – Green Roller (Flying Spur) - draft: Inglewood Stud
Te Akau trained Super Seth filly to win Karaka Million 2YO The sale was preceded by the Karaka Millions meeting on Saturday 25 January at Ellerslie, where Super Seth (Dundeel) filly La Dorada (Super Seth) won the $1m TAB Karaka Millions 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) for trainers Mark Walker & Sam Bergerson, while providing the stable with their eighth winner out of nine years in the showcase race for two-year-olds.
Winning two of three starts, La Dorada has exuded excellent qualities, those of talent matched by toughness.
Super Seth made a fantastic impact as a three-year-old colt, especially when ‘coming from nowhere’ to beat race favourite and subsequent seven-time Group One winner Alligator Blood (All Too Hard) in the Caulfield Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m).
Super Seth is a son of six-time Group One winner Dundeel, by international sire of sires High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells).
With his oldest crop now three-year-olds, the progeny of Super Seth has continued to impress trainers while they affirm themselves in age group races.
This season has seen the emergence of Super Seth three-year-old filly Sethito, who impressively won the Bonecrusher Stakes (Gr. 3, 1400m) and finished second in the Eight Carat Classic (Gr. 2, 1600m), and now La Dorada, as well.
The filly is out of young mare Green Roller, who won five times from 1600m – 2400m in Australia, including the Strutt Stakes (Listed, 2100m), and already left three-time winner Left Reeling (Dundeel).
Green Roller is by Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner and Champion Sire Flying Spur (Danehill), who became an extremely good broodmare sire among the top five over the past decade in Australia. The half-sister to Green Roller, Bequests (Stravinsky), is the dam of 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Ugo Fuscolo (Zacinto).
Green Roller is out of stakes winner Given (Canny Lad), who won five times from 1100m – 1200m and became a very good producer, leaving seven individual winners of 17 races. “She’s a very strong filly and not dissimilar in appearance to La Dorada,” said David Ellis.
“We’ve been keeping a close eye on the performances by the progeny of Super Seth and he’s a good young sire that produces muscular early types that are certainly training on as three-year-olds.
“Being by Dundeel, who was a superstar racehorse and sire, the Super Seth’s should just continue to get better as they mature.
“She’s been prepared by a great farm at Inglewood Stud, where they get one of the best rearing opportunities anywhere in New Zealand, and that stands by them.”
The filly carries a cross of breed shaping sire Danehill, through the dam line of Super Seth and sire line of Green Roller, and also that of Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) Canny Lad (Bletchingly).
