Lot 579 Zoustar (AUS) - La Tigeresa (AUS), brown filly

MAGIC MILLIONS GOLD COAST YEARLING SALES

Description

Lot 579 brown filly Zoustar – La Tigeresa (Street Cry) - draft: Widden Stud

NOTE: this filly is one of two fillies comprising our Te Akau 2025 Magic Filly Partnership - a share must also be purchased in Lot 74, not in the fillies individually.

Continuing to grow in stature as a sire, Zoustar (Northern Meteor) leads the Australian General Sires’ List this season for winners, having done the same in 2024, and finishing second to I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) in 2023.

The Leading First Season Sire and Champion Sire of Three-Year-Olds in Australia, his progeny have already recorded over 2000 wins and 128 stakes wins, and he continues to affirm as one of the best sires in Australasia.

Although already a sire of sires, including Zousain who has produced a Group One winner, first and foremost Zoustar leaves quality thoroughbreds that love racing.

Having won six of his nine starts, including two Group Ones and a Group Two, Zoustar became a much sought after stallion in Australia, following the premature demise of his sire Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago) who had also been Champion First Season Sire.

Zoustar was sold to stud for $14 million in the week leading up to his victory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) at Flemington, which provided jockey Jim Cassidy with his 100th Group One winner. Cassidy claimed Zoustar to be “a better three-year-old than Redoute’s Choice and more brilliant than Pierro”.

Winner of four races from 1100m – 1400m and Group Three placed, dam La Tigeresa is by high-class international stallion Street Cry (Machiavellian), a Dubai World Cup winner, who famously sired the greatest of all time, Winx (37 wins, 25 Group One, and NZ$28.1 million).

Street Cry (Machiavellian) is also the sire of Champion US mare Zenyatta, Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, and Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, who stands at stud in New Zealand.

“We were taken by the sheer athleticism of the filly,” said David Ellis. “She’s an incredibly well-balanced filly.

“She’s by the leading sire in Australia, who we know well through the deeds of our Matamata Breeders’ Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) winner Zourian, and she also placed in the Thousand Guineas Prelude (Gr. 2, 1400m) at Caufield.

“She has a beautiful loose walk, is a hard filly not to fall in love with, and she looks to have a really strong presence of dam sire Street Cry in her makeup too.

“She’s an outstanding type and one of the best Zoustar fillies in the sale.”

The filly has some terrific blood in her pedigree, including a cross of Champion Sire Encosta de Lago (Fairy King) on the sire line of Zoustar and dam line of La Tigeresa, and international breed shaper Mr. Prospector in the sire lines of both Zoustar and La Tigeresa.
