Description

Lot 225 chestnut colt Home Affairs – Booker (Written Tycoon) - draft: Coolmore Stud

Here we have the best of both worlds, a first-season stallion by Champion Sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) and a dam by Champion Stallion Written Tycoon (Iglesia).

Te Akau principal David Ellis has experienced tremendous success buying progeny by both incredible sires, which are now also sires of sires and leading broodmare sires.

I Am Invincible is the sire of Imperatriz, whom Ellis purchased in 2020 at the Gold Coast. The winner of 10 Group One races, the most for her sire, Imperatriz is the reigning New Zealand Horse of the Year and Champion Sprinter in Australia. Retired and sold in June last year for $6.6 million, she became the highest priced filly or mare ever sold in the Southern Hemisphere.

While most recently the Te Akau stable star by Written Tycoon is Captured By Love. A finalist for Champion Two-Year-Old after winning two Group Two races, a Group Three, and twice Group One placed, Captured By Love placed three times in group races this season before winning the 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m).

She is now preparing for the $700,000 Sistema Railway (Gr. 1, 1200m) on Karaka Millions Night (25 Jan.) at Ellerslie.

Standing at Coolmore Stud, who prepared the colt for sale, Home Affairs won the Silver Slipper Stakes (Gr. 2, 1100m) as a two-year-old at Rosehill, and became Champion 3YO Colt in Australia, after winning the Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) and Black Caviar Lightning (Gr. 1, 1000m), both at Flemington.

Adding to his stallion credentials, the dam of Home Affairs, Miss Interiors (Flying Spur), is a half-sister to Group One winner and the Leading First Crop Sire for 2021/22 in Australia, Russian Revolution (Snitzel), as well as Group Three winner Turbo Miss (Sebring).

The dam of the colt, Booker, recorded four wins from 1100m – 1400m, including success at the highest level in the Oakleigh Plate (Gr. 1, 1100m) at Caulfield, plus wins at Group Two and Group Three level.

Booker is a half-sister to stakes winning colt Banquo (Written Tycoon), a young sire standing at Waikato Stud.

Incredibly, Booker has had progeny sell for $3m, $2.5m, and $1.6m.

‘The colt is from a great Australian sprint family and as well as having I Am Invincible and Written Tycoon in his pedigree, we love that he has a bloodline cross to Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Flying Spur (Danehill), who is a great influence in any pedigree,’ Ellis said.

‘We think Home Affairs has all the makings of a good sire and the dam, Booker, was an outstanding race mare.

‘The colt impressed us with the fluidity he shows. He’s a beautiful mover and he’s got a demeanour to match.

‘He has all the attributes to make a two-year-old and we were thrilled to get him at the price.’

The colt has a cross of Flying Spur on the dam sire lines of both Home Affairs and Booker.
