Reece Trumper
Assistant Trainer (NZ)
Reece Trumper has long been identified as one of New Zealand’s rising stars in thoroughbred racing.
Reece’s journey began in Stratford, where he grew up immersed in the world of horses through his grandparents, John and Sue Trumper of Cheveley Stud (Te Aroha). The stud stood top stallions and produced multiple Group 1 winners including Gee I Jane, Pakaraka Star and Bulginbaah—laying the foundation for Reece’s deep-rooted passion for the sport.
Since joining Te Akau Racing in 2018, Reece has risen through the ranks, proving himself across multiple roles with diligence and professionalism. He was formerly Assistant Stable Foreman at the Colt Barn before taking on the position of Racing Manager in 2022, where he excelled in his communication with owners and his ability to keep operations running smoothly.
In May 2025, Reece stepped into his new role as Assistant Trainer for Te Akau Racing (NZ). With a natural instinct for horsemanship, Reece is personable, respected, and brings great energy and enthusiasm to everything he does.
His leadership, deep knowledge of both racing and breeding, and unwavering work ethic make him a key member of our senior team. Te Akau is proud to support his continued growth as one of the most promising young professionals in the industry.
