Marcus Corban

Bloodstock Manager

Marcus Corban joined Te Akau’s buying team in 2022, bringing a lifetime of knowledge in bloodstock, pedigree analysis and horse selection. His reputation was established long before that appointment through nearly four decades at Cambridge Stud, where he served as General Manager from 1981 until his retirement in 2020.

Those years covered a golden era under Sir Patrick Hogan. The arrival of Sir Tristram’s second crop in 1981 was only the beginning of a period that saw Cambridge Stud become a leading vendor at Karaka for more than 30 years. From breeding and foaling to preparing outstanding yearlings, Marcus was involved at every stage of the process and became one of the most credentialled and respected figures in the industry.

Today, Marcus is Te Akau’s Bloodstock Manager and works closely with Principal Sir David Ellis KNZM as a trusted member of the buying team. His knowledge of pedigrees, thoroughbred families and the international bloodstock market helps Te Akau identify and secure quality horses for its owners.

Calm, meticulous and deeply committed to preparation, Marcus studies catalogues, inspects yearlings, refines shortlists and applies an experienced eye at every major sale. His expertise complements Sir David’s judgement and the trainers’ input, helping the team assess both the physical and pedigree qualities of each potential purchase.

Marcus’s knowledge is a significant asset, his judgement is trusted and his contribution helps keep Te Akau at the forefront of thoroughbred selection and ownership.
