Lot 59 bay or brown filly Zousain – Liesele (Exceed and Excel) (draft: Coolmore Stud)
This filly, together with Lot 145 our Written Tycoon/Moldova filly, comprises a two filly syndicate.
She is from the first yearling offering by young Zoustar (Northern Meteor) son Zousain: a $400,000 yearling, trained by Chris Waller to win the Moet & Chandon Classic (Gr. 2, 1200m) as a two-year-old and runner-up three times at Group One level from 1200m – 1600m.
The fact that he was acquired for stud duties at Widden Stud is testament to his racing exploits, pedigree, and potential.
Dam Liesele, is by Champion Sire Exceed and Excel (Danehill), who has made a name for himself over two decades in world racing and breeding – he is just an extraordinary sire – and now broodmare sire with daughters already producing 12 Group One winners.
Liesele won nine races from 1000m – 1200m, including the Alinghi Stakes (Listed, 1100m) as a three-year-old at Caulfield, and has produced three individual winners already.
“She is a very sensible and no fuss filly, with great natural athleticism and a terrific mover,” said David Ellis.
“It’s a rarity to be able to buy fillies either by Exceed and Excel or with him as broodmare sire, and it adds enormous quality and value.
