Lot 9 bay filly Exceed and Excel – Elusive Meteor (Northern Meteor) – Eureka Stud
Somewhat of rarity, as few fillies by Exceed and Excel (Danehill) are ever offered for sale, with breeders tending to keep them.
A son of Danehill (Danzig), one of most successful sires of all time (349 stakes winners), Australian Champion Sire Exceed and Excel is closing in on 5000 wins worldwide, including 325 stakes’ wins and 32 Group 1 wins.
With over 500 individual two-year-old winners, no other stallion worldwide has sired more, and his progeny have won: Golden Slipper, Coolmore Stud Stakes, Newmarket Handicap, ATC Sires’ Produce, Blue Diamond, VRC Sprint Classic, Caulfield Guineas, Golden Rose, Thousand Guineas, and Flight Stakes, while 10 of his yearlings have topped $1m and 67 over $500,000.
This gorgeous, strapping filly is the first foal from Elusive Meteor (Northern Meteor), winner of two races to 1400 metres, and a big strong mare with a super turn of foot.
Champion First Season Sire Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago) proved a huge loss to then Australian stallion ranks, passing aged only eight, but served notice of his potency as sire of Champion First, Second, & Third Season Sire Zoustar, Leading Second Season Sire Deep Field (top 10 General Sires’ List), his stallion brother Shooting to Win, Fighting Sun, Eurozone and Sports Edition.
Elusive Meteor is sister or half-sister to seven individual winners, including Group 2 placed and four time winner Aristocratic Miss (Foxwedge).
Te Akau Principal David Ellis said: “She is very well developed, with plenty of natural muscle, a rich colour, a terrifically athletic walk and is quite simply a cracking first foal which we have had so much success with.”
From the sale grounds, Te Akau trainer Mark Walker said: “We loved her as a type, she has a great constitution. Exceed and Excel has been a sensational stallion for a long time, globally.
“She is a great walking filly and very mature for her age. We expect her to be an early two-year-old type and she has the physical scope to train on as a lovely three and four-year-old.”
This filly is in a syndicate with Lot 583 our Written Tycoon filly – we will target the A$2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic this time next year. Both our 2021 syndicate fillies from this sale are already winners, with Bright Blue Sky winning a stakes’ race on debut. Bright Blue Sky qualified for the 2022 Magic Millions’ Classic and steps out in the race on 15 January.
