Lot 96 bay colt Kermadec – Arboreal (Lonhro) $260,000 (draft: Windsor Park Stud)
Dual Group 1 winner over 1600 metres in Australia: Doncaster Handicap and George Main Stakes, Kermadec was an exciting racehorse and already left over 80 winners, including four Group 1, in early stages of stud career.
Dam same Lonhro (Octagonal), the black flash, needs no introduction. Lonhro was Champion Three-Year-Old, Champion Miler, Horse of the Year, and simply an outstanding Australian racehorse that won 11 Group 1.
At stud, he has left nearly 3000 winners, over 170 stakes winners, including 18 Group 1. Additionally a fixture among the top 10 broodmare sires in Australia.
Te Akau has plenty of experience with the extended family, through high quality race mare and fourth dam Arletty (Centaine) leaving Axiom (Zabeel) the dam of Xtravagant (Pentire).
Trained by Te Akau to sensational 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) victory, Xtravagant is now a leading young sire in Australia.
“He’s a lovely colt by Kermadec out of a young Lonhro mare and a first foal, which we like buying,” said David Ellis.
“He’s out of an Exceed and Excel mare, Zabeel mare, and Centaine mare, so just a great pedigree.
“He’s looks the sort of horse that could be running as an autumn two-year-old and develop into a top-class three-year-old.
“We really liked him and he’s a lovely colt, all class and quality.”
