Lot 61 bay filly Snitzel – Xpression (Showcasing) $270,000 (draft: Haunui Farm)
Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), one of three in trilogy of breed shaping champion stallions in Australia, along with forefathers Danehill (Danzig), and Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), has stood for up to $220,000 at Arrowfield Stud.
A two-time Champion Sire of Two-Year-Olds in Australia, Snitzel equalled then surpassed Danehill with record number of individual two-year-old winners in a season – a mark that now stands at 35. He has also headed the General Sires’ List twice and Australian Champion Sire in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
She is the first foal of quality race filly Xpression: two-year-old winner Wakefield Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m), Barneswood Farm Stakes (Gr. 3, 1400m) and placed in 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m).
“She was a standout filly in our opinion and a beautiful first foal by a multiple Champion Sire,” said David Ellis.
“She is a real get up and go sort of filly. Her mother exuded a lot quality as a dual stakes winner and really tested our Champion filly mare Avantage (Fastnet Rock) in a Gold Trail Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m).
“She’s a natural looking, speedy, two-year-old type, with plenty of quality.”
Snitzel is sire of Champion Two-Year-Old Sword of State, purchased as a yearling by David Ellis, most recently won King’s Plate (Gr. 3, 1200m) on Derby Day (5 March) at Ellerslie, running blistering times 1:08.1, last 600m in 32.9, and secured to stand at Cambridge Stud.
The fillies carries Danzig bloodline cross though her sire-lines.
