Karaka Yearling Sales 2022 – Lot 432 Merchant Navy – Moonlover, Chestnut Colt

Lot 432 chestnut colt Merchant Navy – Moonlover (Ilovethiscity) $80,000 (draft: Kilgravin Lodge)

By fast son of Champion Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill), Merchant Navy was a triple Group 1 winner over 1200 metres (twice in Aust., and Royal Ascot) in a career of seven wins from 10 starts.

The colt is from his second crop.

Also from a fast mare, stakes’ winner Moonlover won 10 times to 1200 metres in Australia.

“He’s a real Karaka Million type of horse,” said David Ellis, who has purchased the last six winners of the great race, consecutively.

“Merchant Navy was a great racehorse, with a top pedigree, and the dam, Moonlover, had proper Melbourne city form.

“The dam line sires, further down, Danehill and Sadler’s Wells, you can’t beat them, and there is plenty of black type in his pedigree.

“He’s a real get up and go type and we expect won’t take too long to prepare for racing.”

The colt carries a cross of super sire Danehill, through sire line of Merchant Navy and dam line of Moonlover.
