Lot 32 bay filly Staphanos – Ultra Explosive (Darci Brahma) (draft: Phoenix Park)
Like Lot 7, she is by a young freshman sire, by Deep Impact, one of the most dominant stallions in the world, and mega-sire from Japan.
Dam sire Darci Brahma, purchased as a yearling by David Ellis, winning five Group 1 races, before becoming Champion Sire and major influence in the New Zealand breeding industry. He is now making his mark as a broodmare sire.
Very current in its success, the immediate family of Explosive Jack (Jakkalberry), a triple Derby winner last season in Australia, and NZ Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m) winner Vin De Dance (Roc de Cambes).
Grand-dam Explosive (Exploding Prospect) lived up to her name, exuding strong quickening attributes and proved very good when leaving five individual winners.
“She’s from a really good family and she’s an athletic filly,” Ellis said. “Her half-brother (Explosively (Sweynesse)) ran second to our Almanzor Trophy (Gr. 3, 1200m) winner Need I Say More (No Nay Never) and we thought that was strong form.
“We’ve been impressed with the progeny of Satono Aladdin, another son of Deep Impact, and we train very promising Kabugee (Satono Aladdin).
“She’s a beautifully correct filly, from a good family, and we thought she was good value. She looks the type that could make an autumn two-year-old and develop into a Guineas type filly.”
The filly carries bloodline cross through her dam lines of tremendous sire Mr. Prospector.
