Lot 10 bay colt Savabeel – Thee Achiever (O’Reilly) (Milan Park)

By six-time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) winning three-year-old that proved a sire sensation throughout Australasia. Savabeel is the sire of current Horse of the Year Probabeel, purchased as a yearling by David Ellis at Karaka, winner of four Group 1 races in Australia.

Ellis and Te Akau experienced enormous success with progeny of Savabeel, aiding his standing in no small way, through deeds of NZB Filly of the Year Amarelinha, Hall of Fame, Savy Yong Blonk, Brando, Sword of Osman, Cool Aza Beel, Noverre, Embellish, Prise De Fer, Splurge, Gold Fever, Aotea Lad etc.

“This colt is from the best family in the stud book,” said David Ellis. “It’s a great South Island family of the Dennis brothers (Tony, Joe, Martin and Ray Dennis) and they have always bred their mares to best available stallions.

“We rated him one of the best Savabeel colts in the sale. We loved him. Out of an O’Reilly mare, which is a good cross, and from Centaine and Grosvenor mares going back to our 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner The Perfect Pink, who we know so much about.

“It’s a great family from the past and great current family with so many of the progeny performing well at stakes levels.”

One of their (Dennis bros.) three winners of the NZ Broodmare of the Year title The Fantasy (Gate Keeper) produced The Phantom (Noble Bijou), winner of 10 races and $2,231,391 in stakes, and his brother The Phantom Chance won 11 races and $2,189,706 in prize money.

The first foal of three race winning O’Reilly mare, his grand-dam, The Grin (Grosvenor), won four races and became the dam of 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner The Jewel, her 11 wins netting $620,003.

Ellis also bought a half-brother, High Achiever, trained by Te Akau to win three of seven starts and displayed attributes consistent with the quality family.

He carries bloodline cross of legendary sire Sir Tristram (Sir Ivor), on sire line of Savabeel and dam line of Thee Achiever.
