Description
Lot 256 black or brown colt Castelvecchio – Irish Goodbye (Fastnet Rock) (Landsdowne Park)
He is from the first crop of dual Group One winner Castelvecchio, a son of the Champion Three-Year-Old and Horse of the Year in New Zealand, Dundeel (High Chaparral), who was also Champion Middle Distance Male in Australia, and in turn a son of sire of sires High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells).
Castelvecchio was an outstanding juvenile, winning the Champagne Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m), Rosehill Guineas (Gr. 1, 2000m), and runner-up in the Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m).
He is the first foal of a mare by Champion Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill), with grand-dam Samarmeteors by ill-fated sire of sires Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago), the sire of Zoustar.
“He’s a very straightforward colt, by a sire that was a top racehorse and has the stallion influences around him to make it as a sire,” Ellis said.
“He has a lot of natural substance and out of a Fastnet Rock mare, which is hard to beat.”
The colt has a nicely balanced, and simple, bloodline cross through his sire lines of immortal stallion Northern Dancer.
