Description
Lot 156 chestnut filly Kermadec – Empress Cixi (Shamardal) (draft: Cambridge Stud)
In 2022, at the Karaka Book 1 Sale, David Ellis purchased Kermadec colt Trobriand, winner of his first three starts, including the Eclipse Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m), before finishing third to stable-mate Tokyo Tycoon (Satono Aladdin) in the $1m Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m).
Kermadec (Teofilo) was a dual Group One winner of the Doncaster Handicap (Gr. 1, 1600m) and George Main Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) at Randwick, and now sire of a plentiful amount of winners including six stakes winners, of which three are Group One winners.
With only four crops of racing age, Kermadec has left winners of over 150 races.
Dam Empress Cixi has already left winner and stakes placed Manchu (Redoute’s Choice), and by Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway), also the dam sire of Te Akau Champion Three-Year-Old and triple Group One winner Imperatriz (I Am Invincible).
Winning six of his seven starts, Shamardal became a sire of the highest class, leaving 46 Group One winners, and having incredible success as a broodmare sire.
“She’s a beautifully balanced filly with a great walk and overall just a lovely filly,” said David Ellis.
“Kermadec was a great miler, an incredibly underrated sire, and the family of the filly has the high quality influence of Nureyev in her pedigree.”
