Sam Bergerson – Assistant trainer
With his strong background in the horse racing it was inevitable that Sam would become as passionate about the industry as his family has been with both Grandfathers and father, Roydon Bergerson being horse trainers. He was working alongside his father in 2018 to work with his father before being awarded the Sunline Trust Scholarship in 2019.
The Sunline Trust Scholarship gave Sam the chance to spend six months abroad spending time at Taylor Made in Kentucky, Coolmore stud in Ireland and Shadwell stud in England. On his return to New Zealand we we are lucky to welcome Sam as a member of our team and we look forward to his future with us.
Te Akau David Ellis says “Sam is an integral part to the Te Akau team. He has an 110% can do attitude and his background and knowledge with the thoroughbred is a fantastic attribute”
In 2021 Sam Bergerson is well on the way to realising his ambitions, with his latest big step being appointed assistant to champion trainer Jamie Richards.
Eighteen months after joining Te Akau Racing, 27-year-old Sam has risen through the ranks to a foreman’s position and now further cement his role as official right-hand man to Jamie Richards and has their eyes on another premiership win.
