Yearling Spotlight: Snitzel Filly with Eye on Australia

Fresh from a winning weekend on both sides of the Tasman, and with our Australian stable striking at an impressive 27.2%, there is an exciting opportunity to join the team - with shares remaining in our beautifully bred Snitzel–Yesterjoy filly.

Saturday delivered more special moments for the Tangerine Team and our owners, headlined by Lara Antipova’s victory in the inaugural Listed Michael Moroney (1400m) at Flemington.

Recently crowned New Zealand’s Champion Two-Year-Old, the talented filly recorded her fifth win from six starts under two-time Melbourne Cup winning rider Mark Zahra, opening her Australian winning account with the Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield firmly in her sights.

Her success continued the outstanding start to the season for our Australian operation, which boasts a 27.2% winning strike rate this season - a reflection of the dedication of Mark Walker, Ben Gleeson and our Cranbourne team.

Across the Tasman, Sweetest Thing made a winning debut for our stable in the Listed NZB Canterbury Belle Stakes at Riccarton, with stablemate Sword Of Stars finishing a close third. It was another weekend to celebrate the quality of our fillies and the work of our teams in New Zealand and Australia.

For our owners, these are the moments that make racing so special: watching their horses cross the line, sharing the celebrations, and looking ahead to what might come next.

Purchased by Sir David Ellis for A$500,000 from Baramul Stud at the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, our Snitzel–Yesterjoy filly combines an exceptional sire line with a highly distinguished Australian family - one of the very best in the stud book.

By four-time Champion Australian Sire Snitzel, she is a half-sister to dual Group 3 winner The Elanora. Her granddam is four-time Group 1 winner Tuesday Joy, while the wider family includes Sunday Joy and champion More Joyous.

Sir David’s eye for Snitzel’s progeny has already produced Group 1-winning two-year-olds Sword Of State and Return To Conquer - and this filly immediately caught his attention.

“She’s a filly that really fills the eye with power and strength, and it’s just a gem of a pedigree. If she delivers as we hope on the track, she will be very valuable indeed,” Sir David said.

She is based and is racing from our Melbourne stable, with two-year-old stakes' races identified as an initial aim - she boasts a family background that also offers encouragement for her development beyond her juvenile season.
