There is a lot of talk in the industry about our Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Racing, Rt Hon Winston Peters, and his wonderful news about an all-weather track that is in the pipe-line and I am predicting more good news for the industry in the budget.
Remember that everything in the past that Winston has promised for the industry, he has delivered on and I am totally confident that this will be no exception. We all just need to be a little patient.
On the home front, I am staggered at how well all of our Karaka yearlings have settled in at Te Akau Stud - they are all on beautiful grass and they will do nothing but relax for six weeks and then we will start to break them in.
I can't describe how wonderful it is to drive around the farm and see so many stunning colts and fillies - probably the best group of yearlings I have ever had on the farm!
Shares in yearlings are selling very quickly - there is only 5% remaining in our filly syndicate and we also have some shares available in some real crackers - just two examples:
Just take a look at this Princess - she is by the hugely exciting young sire Sacred Falls - his progeny were very well received at Karaka and in high demand - and she is out of a Group winning mare in Vickezzchardonnay - a perfect combination!
A 10% share in this filly is only $16,800 plus GST (which includes sales' expenses at cost and full veterinary inspections and x-rays). A 5% share just $8,400 plus GST.
Look at the depth in this filly - she is just covered in quality from head to toe. She has a stunning pedigree and she was bought from a great nursery. I could see this filly running next year in the Group 1 Sires' Produce and then being at Riccarton to contest the Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas, a race we have won four times.
She is a belter of a filly!
And now a stunning colt ... it you want to win a Group 1 Derby or a Melbourne Cup then this is the colt for you!!
This colt is by a sire that I have a huge amount of time for - Reliable Man - and is from a really strong female family too. This colt is to my mind one of the best staying colts in the sale.
I paid $160,000 plus GST for this striking individual and I have told a couple of my best friends to buy a share in him, such is his class and quality.
So be quick - he will sell very fast this lad will - especially when we start to advertise him nationwide next week.
Although we only had a couple of runners in New Zealand this past weekend, our Champion Singapore trainer Mark Walker was on fire training a treble at Kranji - what a great trainer he is!
Have a terrific week - have a close look at these two yearlings above and I am sure you'd love the experience of being involved with young horses of such promise and calibre - and GO THE TANGERINE!
