Te Akau Trans Tasman Saturday Preview

Te Akau Racing has two horses entered on Saturday 4 July at Te Rapa, Hamilton, New Zealand, and one horse entered at Flemington, Victoria.

Te Rapa:

Weather: fine, track: Heavy8, rail: out 12 metres. No rain forecast.

3:12 p.m. R6 7 Sense of Timing (5 m Time Test – Pin Up Lae) – Michael McNab; she found the line solidly for fourth in a Rating 75 1400 metres on 16 May at Otaki, and contests the $35,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. She impressed winning here over 1500 metres last season, and has been stakes’ placed three times. She has also placed on heavy ground, and she can prove competitive in what shapes up as an even field. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.70.

4:22 p.m. R8 11 Trouble Maker (3 f Redwood – Always In Trouble) – Craig Grylls; she drew clear to win the Maiden 2YO & Up 1600 metres on 14 June at Matamata in stylish fashion, also with Craig Grylls aboard, and contests the $35,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. She was ‘on warning’ when she broke through at her fourth start, having shown less than flash form prior.  She is however a filly who has needed time and in her favour today is the fact she seems to handle yielding ground, and the wide draw (12) may prove beneficial later in the day. Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.60.

Flemington:

Weather: showers, track: Soft7, rail: true. Showers forecast.

3:40 p.m. (NZ) - 1:40 p.m. (Vic) R4 3 Rainsun (3 g The Autumn Sun – Raindrops On Roses) – Lachlan Neindorf; he outstayed his rivals with a strong finish to register consecutive wins in Benchmark 66 2025 metres on 21 June at Cranbourne, in the Hans of the same rider, and contests the A$200,000 Mahogany Challenge Final (3YO 2500m). He is a direct descendant of Melbourne Cup winner Let’s Elope (Nassipour), and his dam Raindrops On Roses (High Chaparral) won four races from 2000m – 2500m. He has the pedigree therefore behind him, and of course the progeny of The Autumn Son has been making a real impact this season. He has unfortunately drawn wide (12) but he is still the winner of two from three and deserves this opportunity to prove competitive whilst stepping up in class. NZ TAB fixed odds: $9.50 & $2.90.
