Te Akau Trans Tasman Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Wednesday 30 September at Cambridge (poly-track), New Zealand, and one horse entered at Ballarat, Victoria. 

Cambridge: 

Weather: overcast, track: poly-track, rail: true. 

2:27 p.m. R3 1 Centurial (4 g Savabeel – Purcentage) – Michael McNab; he was allowed to find his feet at the rear and finished strongly near the rail to win a trial on 8 September at Rotorua. Resuming in the $18,500 Maiden 970 metres, he has always displayed ability and raced well during his first campaign, and rates a top three chance if appreciative of the synthetic surface at first attempt. Fixed odds: $1.95 & $1.15. 

3:00 p.m. R4 2 Legally Binding (5 g Exceedance – Legal Eagle) – Cooper Stumbles (a4); he travelled off the leader in second and remained held together for third in a trial on 8 September at Rotorua. Resuming in the $18,500 Rating 74 970 metres, he has the plus of apprentice weight relief to 59kg, and was a course/distance winner when resuming as three-year-old. With a career total of four wins to 1200 metres, he is a genuine top three prospect from barrier five - the first of two stablemates in the race. Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.15. 

3:00 p.m. R4 7 Paravane (5 m Merchant Navy – In The Vanguard) – Hayley Hassman (a1); she tracked up widest after racing three-wide in midfield and sustained a big effort for second when resuming in the Rating 69 970 metres here on 9 September. A half sister to on-fire sire Sword of State, she too contests the Rating 74 970 metres, is a dual winner with good ability and is also more than capable of delivering a top three finish from the hands gate (4). Fixed odds: $3.70 & $1.55. 

5:19 p.m. R8 3 Perlino (4 m Super Seth – Palomino) – Hayley Hassman (a1); she co-led from barrier one and stuck to her task solidly in the home straight for a close third in a trial on 8 September at Rotorua. Resuming in the $18,500 Rating 73 1550 metres, she's accumulated three wins, and ended her previous campaign winning the Listed Warstep Stakes over 2000m. Ideally drawn (1) today, she can make her presence felt in the finish if she appreciates the synthetic surface at her first attempt. Fixed odds: $2.80 & $1.40.

Ballarat:

Weather: fine, track: Good4, rail: out 4 metres. No rain forecast.

7:20 p.m. (NZ) - 4:20 p.m. (Vic) R6 6 Wonderful Sky (3 f Ole Kirk – Medic) – Michael Dee; she found the line boldly off the back of runners for fourth in a trial on 14 September at Cranbourne, also with Michael Dee aboard, and resumes in the A$35,000 Benchmark 64 3YO 1200 metres. She followed a close debut second with a comfortable win and then was spelled after a game second in Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes (1200m). She has the talent to rate a top three chance but needs a lot to go her way from the outside gate (14). NZ TAB fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.60.
