Te Akau Te Rapa Sunday Preview

Te Akau Racing has six horses entered on Sunday 17 September at Te Rapa.

Weather: fine, track: Soft6, rail: out 3 metres. No rain forecast.

11:40 a.m. R1 4 Alminette (4 m Burgundy – High Heels) – Jess Allen (a3); she finished strongly to photo-finish for second (third) in a trial on 29 August at Waipa, and resumes in the $40,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. She ended her previous campaign finishing fourth in the NZB Airfreight Stakes (Listed, 1600m) and third in the New Zealand Bloodstock Warstep Stakes (Listed, 2000m). A maiden winner over 1200 metres, she is course placed at her only attempt, has weight relief to 55kg, and looks a top three chance. Fixed odds: $3.50 & $1.50.

2:03 p.m. R5 6 Soprano Supreme (5 m Contributer – Falsetto) – Jess Allen (a3); she stretched out nicely for a staying mare, down the outside, in a trial on 29 August at Waipa, and resumes in the $50,000 Open Handicap 1600 metres. She spelled in March after an Auckland Cup (Gr. 2, 3200m) tilt. A good mare, she will relish weight relief to 51kg, is a previous course winner, and is capable of a bold showing fresh-up. Fixed odds: $11.00 & $2.70.

3:57 p.m. R8 10 Malborough Bay (4 g Darci Brahma – Spin ‘N Grin) – Michael McNab; he sustained a powerful finish to stylishly win the Rating 65 1400 metres on 27 August at Matamata, and contests the $40,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. He meets much stronger field, but ideally drawn (5) to rate a top three chance in a field of three stable starters. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $2.00.

3:57 p.m. R8 14 Family Ties (4 m Contributer – Glamazon) – Kozzi Asano; she closed well over the concluding stages in a trial on 27 August at Matamata, and resumes in the $40,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. She impressed winning the Oaks Prelude (Listed, 1800m) last season, acts fresh, and is capable of bold showing from barrier four in a race short of her best distance. Fixed odds: $21.00 & $6.00.

3:57 p.m. R8 16 Zantabulous (4 m Almanzor – Zantelagh) – Warren Kennedy; she was doing her best work through the line for fifth when resuming in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 23 August at Taupo, and contests the $40,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. Impressive winning in March over 1400 metres on Soft5 footing at Matamata, she destined for further but look for her finding the line strongly. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $2.00.

4:32 p.m. R9 6 On the Bubbles (5 g Brazen Beau – More Bubbles) – Warren Kennedy; he circled from last and sustained a strong finish for third in fastest last 600m (36.2) when resuming in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 23 August at Taupo, and contests the $50,000 Open Handicap 1200 metres. He meets good field, but is ideally drawn (2) to produce another bold performance. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.20.
