Te Akau trialled black type performers in a pre-raceway, one-off trial at Te Rapa on Saturday 22 August -

Heat 1 Group & Listed 1050 metres (neck, 2 ¼ lengths 1:03.2)
Egyptian Queen (6 m Zoustar – Hieroglyphics) – Craig Grylls; she began well to lead, was steadied to three back on the inner, popped away from the rail at the 300m and ran home strongly for third.
Talisker (6 g Embellish – Glenkinchie) – Opie Bosson; he got back from the outside gate in a 12-horse field, was nine lengths off the leaders at the 600m, pushed up widest rounding the home turn and was not placed under any pressure while working home nicely over the sprint distance.
She Suits Herself (4 m Savile Row – Sleepygirl) – Hayley Hassman; she got back settling in the last three, was eight lengths away at the 600m, and while she remained back, she worked home well for a staying mare over a sprint distance.
Qali Al Farrasha (6 m Almanzor – Nucleonic) – Michael McNab; she was allowed to find her feet at the tail, some 10 lengths off at the 600m, and stayed near the rail, remaining well held.
