Te Akau: Te Akau Update

Some things never change, it is a busy weekend for Te Akau starting from today.David writes:This morning I am off to Wellington with Group 1 NZ Oaks' Day tomorrow.  Today I am having lunch with 10 potential owners at Martin Bosley's.

I always enjoy going to Wellington and last night I was thinking about the great days' racing that we have had over the years at Trentham which I regard as the best track in New Zealand. We have won most of the big races at Trentham, some of them three times.

The best day at Trentham was the day I met Karyn - that day I got the treble. King's Chapel won the Groyp 1 Telegraph, Kapsdan won the 2YO Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes and from memory Mark was at Ellerslie and won another couple there and I met Karyn!

Tomorrow we have a beautifully bred filly in The Oaks owned by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan. She is by Redoutes Choice out of Crimson who is by Zabeel.  She has been working well and looks to have some class about her.

Karyn and I are also sponsoring the time-honoured Cuddle Stakes tomorrow and it has drawn a super female field.  Every year Te Akau sponsors races as we believe it is important to put something back into the industry that we love so much.

Tomorrow I have to get back home as soon as possible as Karyn is having a function at Brooklands Country Lodge for her girls' syndicate.   This year I bought them a Keeper filly out of Silk Slipper, one of the very nicest fillies I have ever had on the farm here.  Brooklands is only ten minutes down the road.

Most farmers in New Zealand are really desperate for rain especially my friends in Hawkes Bay who have not had good rain since last September.  We are fortunate at Te Akau Stud that we still have quite a lot of grass but we would still welcome rain nevertheless. It is due on Sunday so let's cross our fingers it does arrive for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne as well as the top half of the North Island.
