Te Akau: Te Akau NZ Riccarton Preview

A Te Akau filly hunting black type and a mare line up at Riccarton on Saturday.

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the nine-race programme on Saturday April 6 at Riccarton.

As at 8:57am on Friday April 5 the conditions were: fine and Good3, rail out seven metres.

4:11pm R7 11 Persia (3 f Perfectly Ready - Crown Tigress) - rider to be advised; proved too strong, as favourite, when coming off a strong pace with a big finish to win the Maiden 1400 metres here on March 13. She faces a stiff class rise in the NZB Airfreight Stakes (Listed, 1600m). A filly on the up with a first and second from only three starts, fire out of the track would provide the most suitable surface.

5:32pm R9 4 Viana (4 m Volksraad - Hecuba) - Ross Doherty (a2); made ground nicely from the rear when freshened for the Benchmark 75 1400 metres on March 15 at Ashburton, having fought solidly for sixth on Feb. 2 in the Dunedin Gold Cup (Listed, 2400m) at Wingatui. A dual winner on the course, stepping to 1800 metres in the Benchmark 75 event while rated 78 is made easier with weight relief and she is a mare with the right credentials at best to prove very competitive.
