Te Akau Tauranga Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Wednesday 14 October at Tauranga.

Tauranga:

Weather: cloudy, track: Soft5, rail: out 6 metres. Showers forecast Tuesday and Wednesday.

1:07 p.m. R2 12 Lady Margaery (4 m Savabeel – Sexy Thing) – Hayley Hassman (a1); she was steadied back from a wider gate, tracked up widest into the home straight and found the line solidly for fourth in a trial on 22 September at Avondale, also with Hayley aboard. Debuting in the $18,500 Maiden 1200 metres, she is by 10-time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), with her grand-dam Eureka Jewel (Semipalatinsk) being a multiple Group winner to 2000m. While her future seems to be over further distance, she is ideally drawn (3) to race well first-up. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.15.

2:49 p.m. R5 11 Passion ‘N’ Pride (4 m Darci Brahma – Sweet Hunter) – Cooper Stumbles (a4); she came off the trail with a tough performance for second when resuming in the Maiden 1400 metres on 25 September at Te Rapa, also with Cooper in the saddle, and lines up the $18,500 Maiden 1600 metres. She closed solidly for second over 1600 metres among her three starts last season, has the plus of weight relief to 52.5kg, and is well placed to perform strongly with a decent trip from barrier nine. Fixed odds: $4.60 & $1.95.

3:59 p.m. R7 11 She Suits Herself (4 m Savile Row – Sleepygirl) – Hayley Hassman (a1); she settled back on the outer, tracked up wide into the home straight and finished off strongly for second in a trial on 6 October at Matamata. Contesting the $40,000 Rating 65 2100 metres, her two ducks this campaign has come on heavy tracks, one being in a highlight event. However she was a close second in the Listed Oaks Prelude (1800m) before winning her Maiden over 2100 metres last season, and  she is drawn (1) to show improvement. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.35.

5:09 p.m. R9 4 Altari (5 g Savabeel – Bohemian Lily) – Hayley Hassman (a1); he steadied for cover from the outside gate, was third into the straight and finished strongly for second in a trial on 8 September at Rotorua. Resuming in the $40,000 Rating 75 1400 metres, sadly he didn’t race due to the abandonment at Rotorua on Sunday. He has been a dual winner in a fresh state to 1500 metres, and this is a good opportunity for him to produce an encouraging performance in what has turned out to be a strong field. Fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.30.
