Te Akau Tauranga Friday Preview

Te Akau Racing has three horses entered on Friday 10 January at Tauranga.

Weather: fine, track: Soft6, rail: out 8 metres from 1000m – 400m, remainder out 6 metres. No rain forecast. 

2:55 p.m. R5 1 Trobriand (4 g Kermadec – Arboreal) – Ngakau Hailey (a2); he settled back on the inner and ran on without being extended over a sprint trip in a Group & Listed trial on 20 December at Matamata. Resuming in the $40,000 Rating 75 1200 metres, he was the Group 2 Eclipse Stakes (1200m) winner as two-year-old, and charged away for a fresh-up victory in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 21 August at Taupo. He enjoys weight relief to 58kg, and has first four claims from barrier five. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.45. 

2:55 p.m. R5 5 Egyptian Queen (4 m Zoustar – Hieroglyphics) – Wiremu Pinn; she proved dominant with a richly deserved success in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 21 December at Te Rapa, and steps up in the $40,000 Rating 75 1200 metres. Twice stakes' placed, she has been runner-up in both her course/distance attempts, and rates a top three chance from barrier two. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $1.85.

3:30 p.m. R6 11 Inca Belle (5 m Per Incanto – Belle Vie) – Vinnie Colgan; she ran on without threatening for third in the Rating 65 1400 metres here on 13 December, and contests the $40,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. Racing solidly, she brings a very good course/distance record, the blinkers are on, but she requires luck from her wide draw (12). Fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.70.
