Te Akau Sunday Update

It was a great day's racing at Te Rapa yesterday.  Te Akau had no luck with Spellbinder finishing a gallant second in the $100,000 Group 2 Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Fillies' Classic.

However every time you go to the races I have always had the policy that you win with style and you lose with grace and dignity.

In the Sir Trsitram Fillies' Classic the only perfect ride was that of Vinnie Colgan - his Australian experience did shine over the other riders.

As far as preparing for the Group 1 Derby or the Oaks, Spellbinder went a super race.  With her unable to take the trail at the finishing post for the first time, and due to the slow pace, she finished up slightly further back than was ideal on such a slow pace.  I have always felt that jockeys should take the rail when it is there and Spellbinder could have got the fence easily however let's always remember, it is a split second decision and it is very easy afterwards to be wise or judgemental.  As I always say - move on - the future is bright.

Spellbinder is a filly who in seven starts has never finished further back than third - and was a $60,000 Karaka purchase of mine.  We have another O'Reilly filly that I purchased who reminds me a lot of Spellbinder, she is really in her mould - that is Lot 80 and as of today, we only have 12.5% available in her - she is out of Know All who is a three quarter sister to Sayyida, the dam of the champion Ocean Park.  Just take a look at her, a gorgeous filly.

Today Karyn and I are concentrating on selling shares in yearlings and I sold my first share at 7.30am this morning to a first time owner who I have known well for 35 years - he took a 10% share on our O'Reilly/Grand Echezeaux colt and there is now only 15% remaining in him.

Sales are going much more quickly than we anticipated and now there is only 10% remaining in my Four Colt Syndicate - this syndicate comprises four of the very best colts from Karaka - have a look and judge for yourself - click on this link:

You will see what beautiful animals these four are.

Please feel free to call Karyn or me today if you are keen to be involved with Te Akau on 07 825 4701!
