Te Akau: Milestones Nigh

Two significant milestones for Te Akau Singapore trainer Mark Walker are not far away.

What a career Mark Walker has had - we could write pages and pages about his extraordinary success in New Zealand - five times a New Zealand Trainers' Premiership winner and four times named New Zealand's Champion Trainer.

He's trained award winning champion 2YOs, 3YOs, sprinter/milers, stayers and middle distance horses and of course a Horse of the Year.

A man who trained more NZB Fillies of the Year, more Group 1 Kelt Capital Stakes' winners and more 2YO winners in a season  - than any other trainer - as well as the highest ever domestic stakes' earner in Princess Coup.

Mark's statistics speak for themselves.

Before leaving for Singapore to establish the Te Akau operation there - Mark trained 858 winners in New Zealand - for total accumulated stakes of $17.95 million.

Of these 858 winners - 88 were at Group and Listed level and earned our owners $11.56 million.

Mark has always been in a league of his own - a talented, passionate, dedicated and focused trainer, he lives, eats and breathes is career. Luckily he has the staunch support of his wife Julia who, with her respected background in the industry, certainly understands the demands, rigours and pressures of life as a top class trainer brings.

Now Mark looks set to make his presence very much felt in Singapore where, with 25 wins already just three months of this new season, he continues to dominate the Trainers' Premiership - the next closest trainer has 18 wins to his credit.

Since travelling to Singapore, Mark has trained 118 winners in just two and a half seasons - as well as six black type races.

So now with a career total of 976 wins, another 24 will see Mark reach that magic “1000 training success” club. And with 94 Group and Listed titles to his credit - six further at this elite level will see Mark achieve the milestone of 100 Group and Listed winners.

Both of these milestones look to be very close by. Watch this space as they say!
