Te Akau Midweek Cambridge Preview

Te Akau Racing has 11 horses entered on Wednesday 17 May at Cambridge.

Weather: fine, track: poly-track, rail: true. No rain forecast.

11:25 a.m. R1 8 Star In The Sky (3 f Savabeel - Pikari Star) - Wiremu Pinn; she raced on the pace before finishing seventh in the Pearl Series Maiden 1600 metres on 26 April at Hawera, and contests the $14,000 Maiden 1550 metres. She is handily drawn (6) but is yet to race on the poly-track.

11:57 a.m. R2 8 Primo Vino (3 g Savabeel - Vinorules) - Michael McNab; he let down nicely for third when trialling here on 5 May and resumes in the $14,000 Maiden 1550 metres. He is likely to get back from the tricky draw (9) but look to see him run home strongly.

1:07 p.m. R4 1 Al Malik (3 g Zoustar - Mumtazaah) - Michael McNab; he ran home well for third in a trial on 24 April at Waipa, and resumes in the $14,000 Maiden 3YO 1300 metres. He raced well during his first campaign and is ideally drawn to continue in that vein if appreciative of the poly-track.

1:07 p.m. R4 8 Redsheis (3 f Burgundy - Show No Emotion) - Warren Kennedy; she finished well for fourth once clear in the Pearl Series Maiden 1400 metres on 19 April at Matamata, won by subsequent winner Nigella Lane (Niagara), and contests the $14,000 Maiden 3YO 1300 metres. She brings good form and is ideally drawn (3) to rate a top three chance if she handles the poly-track.

1:42 p.m. R5 8 Too Classy (3 f Puccini - Classy Choice) - Warren Kennedy; she sustained a good finish for third in a trial on 24 April at Waipa, and she resumes in the $14,000 Maiden 3YO 1300 metres. She is handily drawn (5) but is another experiencing the poly-track for the first time.

2:17 p.m. R6 9 Pisco Sour (4 m I Am Invincible - Refreshing) - Warren Kennedy; she has been given time (32 days) since being caught wide in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 15 April at Te Rapa, and contests the $14,000 Rating 75 1300 metres. She has trialled well here and shapes to race accordingly with a decent trip from barrier seven.

4:04 p.m. R9 7 French Rose (3 f Burgundy - Paraiba) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she looked good in her action quickening clear to win easily at the trials here on 5 May and resumes in the $14,000 Maiden 970 metres. On the strength of the trial performance, she should race well however a bit of luck is required from barrier eight.

4:04 p.m. R9 9 Aequus (3 f Iffraaj - Equanimity) - Craig Grylls; she closed strongly for third in a trial on 24 April at Waipa, and also resumes in the $14,000 Maiden 970 metres. She is from the impressive winning mare Equanimity (More Than Ready), also trained by Te Akau, but is yet to race on the poly-track and requires a lot of luck from her wide draw (12).

4:04 p.m. R9 14 Pokuru Show (3 g Vadamos - Mystery Show) - Warren Kennedy; he rounded off well for fourth after missing the start in a trial here on 5 May and resumes in the $14,000 Maiden 970 metres. He requires a lot to go right from the outside draw (14).

4:34 p.m. R10 3 Caravella (3 f Caravaggio - Highland Lights) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she rounded off solidly for a close second in the Rating 60 1400 metres on 10 April at Woodville, and had excuses in the Rating 60 1600 metres on 26 April at Hawera. She has shown an affinity with the poly-track, but is yet another who needs things to go her way from a wide draw (13) in the $14,000 Rating 60 2000 metres.

4:34 p.m. R10 7 Aquilo (5 g Frankel - Stormy Lucy) - Warren Kennedy; he finished fourth in the Open Hurdle (2800m) on 6 May at Te Rapa, and contests the $14,000 Rating 60 2000 metres. He lines up in order to keep fit for future jumps' assignments.
