Te Akau Cambridge Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Wednesday 17 August at Cambridge (synthetic).

Weather: fine, track: poly-track, rail: true. 16mls rain forecast.

12:29 p.m. R1 2 Devoted (5 g Contributer - Mapmaker) - Opie Bosson; has been freshened since finishing fourth in the Maiden Hurdle (2500m) on 2 July at Hastings, and contests the $15,000 Rating 60 1550 metres. A winner over 1600 metres, he finished solidly for fourth when trialling here in April.

2:50 p.m. R5 5 Supreme Khan (5 g Mongolian Khan - Angelica Hall) - Opie Bosson; got back as expected from a wide gate (12) before closing strongly for fifth when resuming here in a Rating 75 1300 metres on 3 August, and steps up in the $50,000 Rating 75 1550 metres. He has drawn the same tricky alley (12), but the increase in distance suits and he could get home strongly as a top four chance - one of two in the event for trainer Mark Walker.

2:50 p.m. R5 6 The Mighty Spar (5 g Savabeel - O'Dianne) - Joe Kamaruddin (a1); ended his previous campaign in good form, stretching out well to win a Rating 74 2000 metres on 13 May at Matamata. He finished strongly for third in a trial on 4 August at Te Rapa, and resumes in the $50,000 Rating 75 1550 metres. He has trialled well here and is ideally drawn (4) to make his presence felt.

3:29 p.m. R6 13 Caravella (3 f Caravaggio - Highland Lights) - Joe Kamaruddin (a1); quickened through a gap with a strong finish for second in a trial here on 19 July and sustained a strong finish for second at the trials on 3 August at Te Rapa. By fast racehorse Caravaggio (Scat Daddy), who posted four wins as a two-year-old and was Joint Champion 3YO Sprinter in Ireland, she is from a mare that produced former stable-mate Our Abbadean (Lookin at Lucky), a dual Group 2 winner and twice Group 1 placed. Ideally drawn (2), she has the credentials to race well fresh-up in the $15,000 Maiden 970 metres.
