Te Akau Matamata Thursday Preview

Te Akau Racing has 10 horses entered on Thursday 23 December at Matamata (twilight meeting).

Weather: fine, track: Dead4, rail: out 4 metres. No rain forecast.

3:26 p.m. R2 8 Felicienne  (4 m Savabeel - Flavigny) - Opie Bosson; resumed with an eye-catching late dash for second (beaten only a nose) in a Maiden 1215 metres on 16 November at Rotorua, and was again beaten by just a nose on rain-affected footing after racing three wide in a Maiden 1400 metres here on 4 December. Despite drawing outside (14) in $12,000 Maiden 1400 metres, she rates a top three chance - one of a stable duo lining up.

3:26 p.m. R2 10 Soprano Supreme  (4 m Contributer - Falsetto) - Joe Kamaruddin (a2); spelled in June after three starts, including a third, and resumes in the $12,000 Maiden 1400 metres. She trialled twice, carries weight relief to 54.5kg, and is capable of solid performance from barrier seven.

4:01 p.m. R3 9 Madame Moet (4 m Iffraaj - Champagne Katie) - Opie Bosson; reared as the gates opened in a Maiden 1400 metres here on 4 December, and was not pressured in finishing second at the trials on 13 December at Rotorua. She is notable in finishing fourth in all three starts prior and is capable of a bold showing with any luck from an awkward draw (10) in the $12,000 Maiden 1400 metres - another race with two stable representatives.

4:01 p.m. R3 12 Nossenko  (3 f Savabeel - Vera de Bosset) - Craig Grylls; was without room before finding the line late for fifth when debuting in a Maiden 1215 metres on 16 November at Rotorua, and clocked the fastest last 600m (34.1) when charging home for third in a Maiden 1400 metres on 10 December at Tauranga. She rates a top three prospect in the $12,000 Maiden 1400 metres.

4:36 p.m. R4 2 Wairau Cove (3 g Darci Brahma - Distinctive Lass) - Opie Bosson; impressed winning a trial here and was a close up fourth when debuting on a Slow7 track in a Maiden 3YO 1100 metres on 2 December at New Plymouth. he is the year-younger brother to stable-mate and 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Kahma Lass, a subsequent stakes' winner at Caulfield,  and he has first four claims despite his wide draw (14) in the $12,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres - a race with three stable runners.

4:36 p.m. R4 8 Miss Lovato (3 f Astern - Demilune) - Danielle Johnson; finished second on debut in a Maiden 3YO 1230 metres on 29 September at Rotorua, and was freshened following a close sixth in a Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 20 October at Tauranga. She remained on the bridle when winning stylishly at the trials here on 29 November and rates a top three chance, with blinkers on, despite (yet another!) wide draw (16) in the $12,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres.

4:36 p.m. R4 18 Hero Worship (3 g Xtravagant - Idol) - Joe Kamaruddin (a2); quickened appreciably to win at the trials on 13 December at Rotorua, and debuts in the $12,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres. From the first crop by record-breaking (1:33.5) 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Xtravagant (Pentire), he was bought as yearling by David Ellis at the Magic Millions' sale. His dam Idol, by Champion Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill), won over 1500 metres in Australia. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.50.

5:11 p.m. R5 4 Asperitas  (3 g Shooting to Win - Sehaab) - Opie Bosson; got back off an outside gate and finished strongly for second at the trials on 13 December at Rotorua. Placed in all four trials, and out of a winner over 1000 metres in Australia, he should race well with a decent trip from barrier nine in $12,000 Maiden 1050 metres - an event with two stable starters.

5:11 p.m. R5 13 She's A Showoff  (3 f Showcasing - Que Sera) - Joe Kamaruddin (a2); was given time (34 days) since her debut sixth to subsequent winner Scribe (Press Statement) in a Maiden 1100 metres on 19 November at New Plymouth. She quickened very well to win a trial here prior, she has weight relief to 53kg, and rates in the first four with luck from her wide draw (13) in the $12,000 Maiden 1050 metres.

6:19 p.m. R7 7 Exaltation  (5 m Not A Single Doubt - Meleka Belle) - Opie Bosson; closed the margin when trialling on 23 November at Cambridge, but was inconvenienced by rain-affected, slow going in a Rating 74 1400 metres here on 4 December. Impressive when winning, she is capable of a bold showing from barrier three in the $12,000 Rating 74 1600 metres.
