Te Akau Hastings Thursday Preview

Te Akau Racing has seven horses entered on Thursday 26 January at Hastings.

Weather: cloudy, track: Good4, rail: out 5 metres. No rain forecast.

1:28 p.m. R4 14 Star In The Sky (3 f Savabeel - Pikari Star) - Joe Kamaruddin (a1); she did a good job for fifth after being slow from barrier one when debuting in the Maiden Fillies & Mares 1100 metres on 3 January at Matamata, won by stable-mate Off To The Nunnery (Turn Me Loose). From barrier five, she rates a top three chance in the $14,000 Maiden 1200 metres.

1:28 p.m. R4 16 Zoom (3 f Iffraaj - Ma Belle Ami) - Hakim Kamaruddin (a1); she went to the line with more to offer in a trial on 6 December at Waipa, and resumes in the $14,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Solid through trials' stage, she appears capable of good effort with a decent trip from an awkward draw (9).

1:28 p.m. R4 18 Tenebrosi (3 g Caravaggio - Dark and Stormy) - Opie Bosson; he found clear air 300m and ran home well for second in a trial on 19 January at Tauranga. Debuting in the $14,000 Maiden 1200 metres, he is ideally drawn (2) to give a good account of himself first time to the races.

2:03 p.m. R5 11 Angel Wings (3 f Heroic Valour - Gowana) - Opie Bosson; she finished eighth off a wide trip in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 3 January at Matamata, won by Alminette (Burgundy) in a Te Akau trifecta. Third on debut prior, she receives the opportunity to improve from barrier five in the $14,000 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres.

3:13 p.m. R7 1 The Mighty Spar (5 g Savabeel - O'Dianne) - Hakim Kamaruddin (a1); he was unable to quicken on heavy ground in the Rating 75 2100 metres on 13 January at Tauranga, and contests the $14,000 Rating 75 2200 metres. Ideally drawn (3), his prospects improve on better footing.

4:24 p.m. R9 8 Dame County (4 m Contributer - Dame Mapperley) - Opie Bosson; she was without all favours when staging a big run for fourth in the $14,000 Maiden 1600 metres on 3 January at Matamata, and contests the corresponding event. She rates a top three chance.

5:00 p.m. R10 7 Treaty of Paris (3 g Tavistock - Echezeaux) - Craig Zackey; he struggled on Heavy10 footing in the $14,000 Maiden 1600 metres on 11 January at Matamata, and contests the corresponding event. He is ideally drawn (4), and the blinkers are on, as he seeks to improve.
