Te Akau Cambridge Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has 15 horses entered on Wednesday 31 May at Cambridge.

Weather: fine, track: poly-track, rail: true.

11:27 a.m. R1 2 Primo Vino (3 g Savabeel - Vinorules) - Opie Bosson; he let down nicely for third when trialling here on 5 May and made up a lot of ground for second when resuming in the $14,000 Maiden 1550 metres here on 17 May. He rates a top three chance in the corresponding event - one of three for the stable.

11:27 a.m. R1 6 Rare Company (3 g Savabeel - Fast Company) - Craig Grylls; he was unable to quicken on heavy footing but fought well in the Maiden 1400 metres on 14 May at Matamata, and also contests the $14,000 Maiden 1550 metres. He has trial experience here and appears capable of improving.

11:27 a.m. R1 11 Redsheis (3 f Burgundy - Show No Emotion) - Warren Kennedy; she was denied room in the straight before closing late for fourth in the Maiden 3YO 1300 metres here on 17 May, and likewise contests the $14,000 Maiden 1550 metres. She is suited stepping up in distance, and looks a top three prospect jumping from barrier one.

11:57 a.m. R2 8 Invincibeel (4 m Savabeel - Matakana) - Opie Bosson; she had a glitch with blinkers on two starts ago, and rounded off pretty well in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 28 April at Rotorua. She is suited stepping up in the $14,000 Rating 65 1550 metres, has shown appreciation for the poly-track and receives the opportunity to improve one of a stable duo lining up in the event.

11:57 a.m. R2 11 Caravella (3 f Caravaggio - Highland Lights) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she finished well for fifth in the Rating 60 2000 metres here on 17 May, and also contests the $14,000 Rating 65 1550 metres. She should have no problem back in distance and possesses the ability to race well again.

12:32 p.m. R3 6 Rightly So (3 f El Roca - So It Begins) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she has been given time (35 days) since a notable fifth in the Maiden 1200 metres on 26 April at Hawera, and contests the $14,000 Maiden 1300 metres. Placed five times from seven starts, she finished third when trialling here as two-year-old, and rates a top three chance, one of two in the race for the stable.

12:32 p.m. R3 9 Aequus (3 f Iffraaj - Equanimity) - Craig Grylls; she finished strongly for fifth when resuming here in the Maiden 970 metres on 17 May, and also contests the $14,000 Maiden 1300 metres. The step up in distance should work in her favour, but she requires luck from wide draw (15).

1:07 p.m. R4 3 Angel Wings (3 f Heroic Valour - Gowana) - Opie Bosson; she positioned handily but was unable to quicken on the Heavy10 going in the Maiden 1200 metres on 14 May at Matamata, and contests the $14,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1300 metres. Going well prior, this looks an ideal opportunity for her to bounce back if appreciative of the polytrack - the first of two stable fillies to line up in this.

1:07 p.m. R4 12 Varuni (3 f Darci Brahma - Inniskillen) - Craig Grylls; she sustained a solid run for second when trialling here over 1550 metres on 5 May, and resumes in the $14,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1300 metres (eligible $13,000 bonus). Any emulation of her trial effort should coincide with a good performance.

1:42 p.m. R5 8 Hayate (4 m Maurice - Vamoose) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she found the Heavy10 ground too testing in the Rating 65 1600 metres on 20 May at Te Rapa, and contests the $14,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Rating 65 Fillies & Mares 1300 metres (eligible $13,000 bonus). She was very consistent when trialling here, including a smart trial win, and appears capable of improvement with a good dose of luck from her wide gate (12).

2:17 p.m. R6 1 Merlotti (3 g Burgundy - Ruppertsberg) - Opie Bosson; he fought on for sixth after leading in the Rating 65 1300 metres on 20 May at Te Rapa, and contests the $14,000 Rating 65 970 metres. Ideally drawn in barrier one, much depends on how he handles the polytrack at his first attempt - one of two in the race for the stable.

2:17 p.m. R6 5 Luxuriant (5 m Iffraaj - Opulent) - Craig Grylls; she found the heavy conditions too testing in the Rating 65 1215 metres on 13 May at Rotorua, and also contests the $14,000 Rating 65 970 metres. She looked okay trialling here and will be looking to improve from the handy barrier (3).

2:54 p.m. R7 2 Pokuru Show (3 g Vadamos - Mystery Show) - Warren Kennedy; he rounded off well for fourth after missing the start in a trial here on 5 May, and did well from last when resuming here in the $14,000 Maiden 970 metres. He looks capable of an improved performance in the corresponding event.

3:29 p.m. R8 6 Star In The Sky (3 f Savabeel - Pikari Star) - Warren Kennedy; she made up plenty for fourth in the Maiden 1550 metres here on 17 May, and contests the $14,000 Maiden 2000 metres. She appears suited stepping up in distance and the polytrack looks to hold no concerns.

4:04 p.m. R9 1 Treaty of Paris (3 g Tavistock - Echezeaux) - Warren Kennedy; he won a hurdle trial here by four lengths since last racing and contests the $14,000 Maiden 2000 metres. He has been racing solidly and trialled well here previously.
