David Strikes at Deauville

Date: 18 Aug 2013

It didn't take Te Akau's David Ellis long to strike at the Deauville Yearling Sale in France today - in fact he was successful in securing Lot 1 for 70,000 euros.

The hammer fell to David's bid on an absolutely stunning Fastnet Rock colt - out of Magnolia Lane, a Sadlers Wells mare who is herself a full sister to British superstar Yeats - the winner of four Group 1 Gold Cups at Royal Ascot.

Yeats of course won seven Group 1 races in total - Group 1 Gold Cup (x4), Group 1 Prix Royal Oak, Group 1 Coronation Cup and the Group 1 Irish St Leger (in which he also finished runner up subsequently).  He also won the Group 2 Goodwood Cup twice as well as the Group 2 Derby Trial.

This sensational colt's family just drips in international black type.  Fastnet Rock needs no introduction as the sire of Group 1 winners such as Mosheen, Atlantic Jewel, Irish Lights, Planet Rock, Rock 'n' Pop and others in both hemispheres.  However this colt's dam line boasts Group winners and performers all over the globe - England, Ireland, France, Japan, Germany, Italy and the US.

His photo tells the story as I am sure you will agree.

David today reported:

I am thrilled to have today bought my first horse in Europe - a colt who was Lot 1 in the Deauville Sale this afternoon.  He reminds me of Rock 'n'Pop and he will be trained in Ireland.  This brings a whole new world of excitement and opportunity to our loyal owners - to be involved on a truly international scale, as well as in New Zealand and in Singapore.

"I have never seen a more likely stallion prospect - his mother is a full sister to Yeats who Karyn and I were privileged to see win his fourth Group 1 Gold Cup when we went to Royal Ascot.  He is the greatest horse to have raced there and in fact they have erected a bronze statue of Yeats at Ascot where the horses come back to scale - such is his legendary status.  Yeats is indeed a legend of the English racetrack.

"Shares are available in this colt - but already people at Deauville are telling me they want to be involved so I am sure he will be sold before you know it.  If you are interested please email [email protected] as soon as possible."
