Avondale Trial Update

19 Jun 2013

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday June 18 at Avondale.  The footing was rated Slow9, with the rail out 14 metres.

Heat 5 2YO 800 metres (2 ½ lengths, 1 ½ lengths 51.28)

2 g Zabeel – Berlin Tango – Matt Cameron; jumped away on terms before being a touch out-paced early. He settled behind the leading division in fourth, lost some momentum rounding the home turn, but once balanced in the straight he ran home strongly for second.

Heat 6 2YO 800 metres (4 lengths, 7 lengths 49.20)

2 f Zabeel – Thistle Cove – Matt Cameron; put herself into the trial, three wide near the lead and while finishing off the pace it was said by the jockey that she would improve out of sight for the experience. She did everything right in her first educational trial.

Heat 9 2YO 1000 metres (neck, head 1:05.50)

All Decked Out (2 c Darci Brahma – Diamond Deck) – Matt Cameron; jumped out clear of the field before being steadied to the inside of the leader. Held together in front up the straight, he was kept under a hold to finish close up in fourth. Although not his ground, it was a smart trial and one that can set him up to race.

Heat 10 2YO 1000 metres (2 lengths, 4 lengths 1:03.13)

2 g King’s Chapel – Sea Rhythm – K C Walters; jumped on terms before being steadied behind runners. He lost momentum when crossed at the 800 metres and in a stop/start affair was doing his best work through the line in fifth.
