A New Chapter for On The Bubbles

28 July, 2026

Some partnerships never really end - they simply take on a new chapter.

As a young racehorse, On The Bubbles gave former Te Akau team member Sarah West memories she will treasure forever. As his dedicated raceday strapper, Sarah was alongside him throughout some of the most memorable moments of his outstanding career.

Together, they celebrated victories on some of New Zealand racing’s biggest stages, including his unforgettable win in the $1 million Karaka Million 2YO and his Group 1 triumph in the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Purchased by David Ellis for just $90,000 from the 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale, On The Bubbles quickly established himself as one of the country’s most exciting juveniles.

The son of Brazen Beau became a multiple stakes winner and Group 1 performer, earning close to $1 million in prize money during a career that provided his owners and the Te Akau team with so many wonderful memories.

Life after racing looks pretty great for On The Bubbles too.

Following his retirement from the racetrack, he began a beautiful new life as a much loved sport horse in the South Island. Now, his journey has come full circle, with On The Bubbles reunited with Sarah and enjoying life exactly as every good horse deserves.

His days look a little different now, with raceday silks exchanged for days out on the hunt field and plans to eventually step into the show jumping arena.

The qualities that made him such a talented racehorse - his athleticism, intelligence and willingness - are now helping him embrace his next chapter as a cherished sport horse.

For Sarah, having him back in her life makes this chapter even more special. It was also a story that Te Akau Racing Content Coordinator Sophee Probyn loved bringing to life. Having now been part of the Te Akau team for more than a year, Sophee has enjoyed sharing the stories of our horses and the people behind them, and this special reunion was certainly one to remember.

From champion racehorse to much loved life after racing, On The Bubbles’ journey is proof that the best stories do not always finish at the winning post.

Sometimes, they begin again!
