Xtravagant
Xtravagant blitzed his opposition by a stunning 8.5 lengths when winning the $400,000 Group 1 Sothys NZ 2000 Guineas at Riccarton on 7 November 2015.
After winning on debut at Hastings in April 2015 by 7.5 lengths, David Ellis was confident he had another rising star on his hands - even though it was early days.
Trained by Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards, Xtravagant won the Wellington Guineas' Trial before heading to Riccarton - and delivering another Group 1 success for co-trainer Stephen Autridge, the first Group 1 victory for co-trainer Jamie Richards and the first Group 1 in the famous Te Akau colours for stable rider Matt Cameron.
Xtravagant's time was the fastest ever recorded in the 2000 Guineas - ever.
He then went on to win in outstanding fashion on Boxing Day at Ellerslie before striking an off track at Trentham in January 2016 to finish fourth in the Group 1 Levin Classic.
Xtravagant was back to his superior best however in February 2016 when he took on the older horses at Te Rapa in the $200,000 NRM Sprint and left them in his wake by - eight lengths! With a race not run to suit at Flemington in March 2016, he returned to New Zealand and re-asserted his position as New Zealand's leading three year old, claiming the $70,000 Group 3 Inglis Cambridge Breeders' Stakes in dominant fashion on 30 April 2016 - in doing so, he set a modern day race record.
Bought by David Ellis from the Karaka Premier Sale for $375,000 and raced by the Te Akau 2014 Breeding Syndicate (managed by David Ellis) this son of Pentire looks to have a huge future.
