ROMANCING THE MOON

Purchased by David Ellis CNZM for just $50,000 - El Roca filly Romancing The Moon claimed her first stakes' victory in March 2023.  It had been clear that this success was always on the horizon, with numerous stakes placings by the filly leading up to her well-deserved break through.

After winning two trials in August 2022, she also debuted later that month to finish fourth behind a subsequent stakes' winner.

At her second start just two weeks later, in September 2022, she showed her tenacity and fight when finishing strongly for second in the $65,000 Listed O'Leary Fillies' Stakes over at Wanganui when ridden by Lisa Allpress. So her first black type at only her second Raceday appearance.

One month later, in October 2022, Romancing the Moon was at it again - this time finishing second in the $85,000 Group 3 Super Seth Soliloquy Stakes 3YOF SW 1400m at Te Rapa in the hands of Michael McNab. In doing so she was beaten by subsequent New Zealand and Australian Group 1 winner Legarto, but finished ahead of third-placed Prowess, at one time a NZ Derby favourite.

A fourth followed in the $400,000 Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas 1600m at Riccarton in November 2022, and after a break she bounced back to win before contesting the $140,000 Group 2 Wellington Guineas 3YOSW 1400m in January 2023.  She then travelled to the South Island for a southern black type campaign.

That black type was immediately achieved in February 2023 with Romancing there Moon finishing a good second in the $80,000 Listed Dunedin Guineas 3YO SW 1500m with Te Akau (and Singapore Champion) Apprentice Hakim Kamaruddin in the saddle.

Three weeks later she was back and back big time - trouncing the $65,000 Listed NZB Insurance Stakes 3YOF SW 1600m field by 5.5 lengths - this time with another (not related) Te Akau Champion Apprentice Joe Kamaruddin aboard.

Heading north and crossing Cook Strait on 16 March 2023, Romancing The Moon showed her travel (and race) fitness by trouncing a quality and capacity field of three year olds in the $350,000 Group 1 Gee and Hickton Levin Classic 3YO SW 1600m, ridden by Kozzi Asano.  Stablemate Skew Wiff was runner up, delivering a stable quinella with the stable's only two representatives.

The victory followed on from that of Imperatriz in 2022, heading home a Te Akau first four.  The stable has now won four of the past seven editions - adding Hall of Fame and Age of Fire to the equation.

Romancing the Moon is raced by the Te Akau Moonstruck Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM) and has raced 11 times for four wins and six placings, earning $327,695.
