PROBABEEL

Probabeel burst on to the race scene winning on debut and firmly becoming the favourite for the 2019 $1,000,000 Karaka 2YO Million.

When drawing the outside gate, the market cooled slightly but we did not - nor did Champion Jockey, Te Akau stable rider Opie Bosson who gave her the nod as his preferred mount of the Te Akau five runners in the field.

Almost to script, the daughter of Savabeel came with a barnstorming run down the outside to claim victory - and in doing so, became Te Akau's third consecutive Karaka 2YO Million winner - following in the footsteps of her stable mates Melody Belle and Avantage.  Both of whom went on to win multiple Group 1's between them, and both also becoming Champion 2YO of their season.

Probabeel headed a Te Akau trained trifecta in the 2019 Million, with Aotea lad runner up and Yourdeel dead-heating for third.

She travelled to Australia to campaign in Spring 2019 and was an eye-catching fourth in the A$200,000 Group 2 Furious Stakes before flying home from the rear and failing by just a lip to pick up Funstar in the A$200,000 Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes for 3YO fillies at Royal Randwick in September 2019.  Again very brave, Probabeel was runner-up in the A$1 million Flight Stakes later that month in Sydney.

After resuming in winning fashion at Awapuni, her 3YO moment of glory came in January 2020 - as she created history became,ing the first ever horse to complete the Karaka 2YO and 3YO Million double.

With 'unfinished business' to attend to in Australia, she stepped out in the A$500,000 Group 1 Surround Stakes over 1400m in Sydney on 29 February - in the hands of Opie Bosson she showed a remarkable turn of foot when flying from the rear of the field to snatch victory.

Probabeel remained in Australia to spell at the end of her three year old campaign.  It wasn't long until she showed that her four year old season would be of note.

Resuming in the A$160,000 Group 3 Show County 1200m at Royal Randwick in Sydney in August 2020, she put up a stirring performance with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle to run second over a distance not of her preference.  Commentators noted her effort, and she was sent out a warm favourite for her next Sydney assignment in September 2020.

Not to be denied, Probabeel stepped out next in the A$160,000 Group 3 Bill Ritchie Stakes over 1200m again at Royal Randwick where she brewed home easily for Kerrin McEvoy.

The A$1,000,000 Group 1 Epsom Handicap was always her target and it was mission ;almost' accomplished when she qualified with just 52.5kgs for her most significant day in the sun yet.  Drawing barrier 18, and jumping from 15, seemed to make it an impossible task but no-one told her that.  With McEvoy again in the saddle, she pinged the wide gate, settled midfield and extended in the straight to claim victory in a very convincing fashion.

Returning to New Zealand for a break after a luckless Group 1 WS Cox late tilt, Probabeel returned to Australia in early 2021.  Melbourne again the location and she was swiftly back doing what she does best - winning the A$160,000 Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes over 1200m in the hands of Damian Lane - she made a huge impression claiming victory fresh up, from the widest gate and lugging top weight of 60kgs.

Wide gates seem to track Probabeel for once again she drew out for the A$500,000 Group 1 Futurity Stakes WFA 1400m in February 2021.  One of the best fields assembled for a Futurity Stakes, this race was touted as a dress rehearsal for the A$5 million All Star Mile in March 2021.  Once again wide draws did not matter with rider Damian Lane seizing the initiative despite being three wide the trip - a resounding victory for our class act!

After no luck on a soft track in the A$5 million All Star Mile in March 2021 at Moonee Valley, Probabeel returned to Sydney and was beaten a nose in the A$1.14 million Group 1 Queen to the Turf Stakes over 1600m at Royal Randwick.

Resuming as a 5YO in Melbourne in August 2021, Probabeel was back to her very best overcoming adversity - the widest gate, fresh up over 1200m and 60kgs!!  Expertly ridden by Damian Lane, she prevailed in the A$200,000 Group 3 WW Cockram Stakes over 1200m - meaning she is unbeaten in her three Caulfield outings.

Lining up in the A$1 million Group 1 Underwood Stakes over 1800m in September 2021 and in the hands of Brett Prebble, Probabeel had to settle for second behind the highly rated, unbeaten in Australia import, Zaaki.  However revenge is sweet and best served cold ...

In October 2021 she and Prebble retuned to Caulfield and maintained her unbeaten record there, turning the tables on Zaaki (who was third).  It was a performance full of courage that saw her take a gap down on the fence, part of the track she is not familiar with, and claim victory in the A$1 million Group 1 Might and Power Caulfield Stakes over 2000m. Testament to her heart, the 2000m is really at the top of her range.

This was Probabeel's fourth Group 1 title in Australia and took her stakes' earnings past A$4 million.  It was an auspicious day as earlier in the programme the same owner/trainer/jockey/bloodstock purchaser had seen Kahma Lass win the A$175,000 Weekend Hussler Stakes over 1400m.

Pouring rain and another off track put paid to Probabeel's A$5 million Group 1 WS Cox Plate tilt and she returned to New Zealand in October 2021 for a break.

Probabeel was voted 2020/21 Champion Sprinter/Miler and also 2020/21 Champion Horse of the Year.

Back to Australia Probabeel returned with Kahma Lass in January 2022 to begin her autumn campaign.  She struck immediately when defending her A$200,000 Bellmaine Stakeds over 1200m in the hands of Brett Prebble.  It was an outstanding effort carrying the impost of 60kgs.

Probabeel was purchased on spec. by David Ellis at the 2018 Karaka Book 1 Sale for $380,000 and sold to Brendan Lindsay MNZM and his wife Jo Lindsay who race the mare we know as "Jo".

Trained by Jamie Richards, she has raced 29 times for 13 wins and eight runner up placings - her stake money stands at A$4,358,978 million.
