ON THE BUBBLES

Purchased by David Ellis for just $90,000 at the Karaka Yearling Sale, Book 1 - this son of Brazen Beau won stylishly on debut from a wide gate in mid December 2020.  He followed this up claiming victory, yet again from a wide draw, at Ellerslie on 10 January 2020.

Thus heading in to the $1,000,000 Restricted Listed Karaka 2YO Million unbeaten and as second favourite, connections were disappointed when he again drew the carpark (15), jumping 14 fro0m 14 in the iconic field.

In the hands of Johnathan Parkes nothing however was going to stop "Bolli" as he is known!  A gelding who doesn't know what a good draw means, cruised up and home to claim Te Akau's 5th consecutive Karaka 2YO Million title on 23 January 2021.

In February 2021 On The Bubbles faced off against talented stablemate Sword of State to finish a brave second in the $70,000 Group 3 Waikato Stud Slipper at Matamata in the hands of Johnathan Parkes - he met his nemesis agin at Ellerslie in March on Auckland Cup Day in the $200,000 Group 1 Sistema Stakes where he was again second with Parkes aboard, with a clear margin back to the third place getter.

However "Bolli" was about to claim his own Group 1 glory and in a major training feat by Jamie Richards, On The Bubble headed to Awapuni in Palmerston North in April 2021 as favourite for the $225,000 Group 1 Courtesy Ford Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes over 1400m.   Again with regular rider Johnathan Parkes aboard, he jumped to the lead and was never headed - although challenged by stablemate I Wish I Win - and cruised home to victory by three lengths in a stable quinella.

On The Bubbles concluded his juvenile season as runner up (to stablemate Sword of State) for Champion 2YO of the Year honours.

A breathing issue saw On The Bubbles held up early in the 2021 season, missing the Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas' path.  Successful surgery saw him resume at Te Rapa on Waikato Cup Day in December 2021 where he went a gallant race for second, after almost eight months away from the track.

Further honours came the way of "Bolli" on Boxing Day 2021 at Ellerslie when he claimed the $80,000 Listed Shaw's Wire Ropes Uncle Remus Stakes 3YO SW+P 1400m with Opie Bosson back in the saddle.  This victory, including downing the previously unbeaten Pareanui Bay, saw him installed by bookmakers as the Karaka 3YO Million favourite - the race to be staged in late January 2022.

Unfortunately nothing went right for On The Bubbles in the Karaka 3YO Million is January 2022, the first time he hadn't finished first or second in his career.  However he bounced back very quickly in March 2022 on Group 1 NZ Derby Day, claiming the $80,000 Listed Stella Artois Mufhasa Stakes 3YO SW+P over 1200m with Karaka 2YO Million pilot Johnathan Parkes aboard.

In March, On The Bubbles was back in the Group 1 zone, contesting the $260,000 Group 1 Levin Classic over 1600m.  Unfortunately he was pocketed at a vital stage (by winning stablemate Impetatriz and Michael McNab) but when free, "Bolli" flew home for second.

On The Bubbles (named by Te Akau's Marketing Manager Julia-Rose Hayes) has raced 11 times for six wins and four second placings - and prize money of $908,550 to date.  He is raced by the Te Akau Splash of Dom Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).
