FIERCE FLIGHT

Fierce Flight came of age in his 4YO season - a son of Flying Artie he broke maiden ranks at his third start in February 2022.  He missed his form a little throughout 2022 until he saluted the judge again in October 2022, showing staying potential winning over 2200m.

Finding confidence, win number three came on 23 December 2022, when he charged home in a Rating 65 2000m in the hands of Te Akau stable rider Opie Bosson.  He repeated that feat over 2100m on 13 January 2023, again with Bosson in the saddle.

Finishing third in the Wairarapa Cup over 200m on 6 February, he was beaten less than a length, setting him up for a tilt at the $75,000 Nathan's Memorial Open Hcp 2200m on 4 March 2023 - NZ Derby Day at Te Rapa, when he was runner up to the talented Ladies' Man.  He was held up rounding the final turn and early in the straight not obtaining clear running until near the 150m, so was very unlucky, flying when in the clear.

It was almost a case of deja vu two weeks later at Trentham on 18 March 2023, when ridden by Opie Bosson in the $80,000 Listed Barneswood Farm NZ St Leger Open SW+P 2600m. Victory was narrowly denied, with him finishing second, only beaten a long neck.

However the 4YO was about to bask in winning stakes' glory - on 15 April 2023, Fierce Flight trekked to Hawkes Bay to contest the $100,000 Listed Power Farming Hawkes Bay Cup Open Hcp 2200m. Ridden to the minute by Michael McNab, he did himself no favours when slow away, he shifted in abruptly at the 150m but McNab was in control and the duo claimed line honours in the narrowest of margins!

Fierce Flight was purchased by David Ellis CNZM at the Ready to Run Sale for $45,000 - he has raced 16 times for five wins and six minor placings, earning $128,255 for his owners, the Te Akau Out of Bounds Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).
