Purchased by David Ellis CNZM, Cognito became the 50th stakes' winner for his sire So You Think when winning the $140,000 Group 2 Life Direct Wellington Guineas over 1400m in January 2023.

His career started with a stylish win on debut in August 2022 at Taupo when ridden in a Maiden 1200m event by Te Akau apprentice Niranjan Parmar.

In September 2022 Cognito travelled to Ruakaka where, again ridden by Parmar, he dived and just missed winning a 3YO SW&P 1400m by a half head - the winner Sharp 'N' Smart going on to win at Group 1 level in Sydney.

Heading south to target the Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas, Cognito won the Guineas' trial convincingly with Jason Laking aboard in October 2022 after being held up early in the run home, and only finding clear air at the 200m mark.

Again ridden by Laking, the gelding stepped out in the $90,000 Group 3 War Decree Stakes 3YO SW 1600m and raced with credit to finishing second, and be one of the favourites for the Group 1 assignment.  Unfortunately nothing went right in the main event and after finishing sixth, Cognito travelled home to spell.

Fresh up in to the $140,000 Group 2 Life Direct Wellington Guineas 3YO SW 1400m, a genius ride saw Te Akau stable rider weave an almost impossible path to burst through and claim victory.

Cognito was purchased by David Ellis CNZM at the Magic Million's Gold Coast Sale for A$165,000 and is raced by the Te Akau Think Ahead Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).  he has raced six times, recording three wins and five placings, with stake money of $136,040.
