A beautifully bred daughter of Champion Sire Fastnet Rock, Bright Blue Sky won a stakes’ race on debut – the $70,000 Listed Fasttrack Insurance 2YO Stakes SW 1100m at the ATC meeting stages at Te Rapa in November 2021.
A rare feat, winning black type on debut, but she had shown huge promise leading into the event, including a trials’ win. When stable rider Opie Bosson indicated he would drop to 54.5kgs to ride her – the market sat up and took notice and she was sent out a red hot favourite.
Purchased by David Ellis from the January Magic Million’s Yearling Sale for A$600,000, Bright Blue Sky is one of two fillies raced by the Te Akau 2021 Fillies’ Breeding Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM). The other being an I Am Invincible filly named I Choose You.
Bright Blue Sky has raced once, for a black type win, with stakes’ earnings of $40,250.
Her feat in winning a stakes race on debut has been previously achieved by Te Akau trainer Jamie Richards three years earlier with Aotea Lad in the Group 2 Wakefield Stakes at Trentham in 2018.
